Typing Speed Test

Type everyday sentences for 60 seconds and find out your words per minute in a quick, friendly test.

How to play

The Typing Speed Test gives you one minute to copy as many short sentences as you can. A sentence appears in a shaded box, and the clock starts the moment you type your first character in the field below. As you go, each letter in the sentence turns green when it matches, red with a wavy underline when it does not, and a small marker shows where your next character belongs. Finish a sentence with no mistakes and the next one appears automatically. If you would rather keep moving, press Enter to skip ahead even with a few typos; only the characters that were correct still count. Pasting and dragging text into the box are blocked to keep things fair. Your speed is reported in WPM, or words per minute. Following the usual typing test convention, every five correct characters, including spaces and punctuation, count as one word. After the first few seconds, a live WPM readout appears near the timer so you can see how you are trending. When the minute is up, the box locks and your final WPM becomes your score. The sentences cover ordinary topics like weekend plans, pets, food, and the weather, and a few of them sneak in nearly every letter of the alphabet. Many casual typers land somewhere around 35 to 45 WPM, while people who type all day often reach 60 or more. The top percent figure on the results screen is a rough estimate based on general typing speed surveys, not on scores from other visitors here.

Tips for a better score

FAQ

How is WPM calculated here?

We count every character you typed correctly in the right position, including spaces and punctuation, divide by five to get words, and scale that to one minute. Mistyped characters are not counted.

How was the top percent table made?

The table is an estimate built from commonly reported typing speed ranges for adults. It is not based on results collected from players on this site, so treat it as a casual benchmark.

My phone keeps changing what I type. What can I do?

Autocorrect, predictive text, and smart punctuation can quietly alter characters. Turning them off in your keyboard settings, or playing on a computer, usually gives cleaner results.
